Bullying Is A Vicious Thing

I knew that getting into the profession of teaching there would bullying that I would have to deal with among children. I never thought in my wildest dreams that I would have to see it among the teachers at the school. I was flabbergasted today by the conversation I heard in the teacher lounge.

There were about 8 teachers sitting at one table, including myself, and then there was only 1 sitting at a nearby table. I thought this was odd because everyone usually mingled, but then I just brushed it off and continued with my lunch. After the lonesome teacher left I could not believe my ears. One of the teachers at my table right out told the other teachers to not talk to that other teacher sitting alone because of some asinine reason. I could not believe what I was hearing! I was the youngest and least experienced person in the room and sure as hell knew that this was unbelievable. Was this actually going on between the teachers? How are we, the teachers, supposed to preach to the students to not bully one another when the teachers themselves are bullying each other? I truthfully could not believe what was happening.

I wish had said something to the teacher, but, being as I am only a student teacher, I felt like it probably would have been frowned upon to call another teacher out when I do not actually work at the school.

So here is my goal for everyone: Treat everyone with respect. It's not a hard thing to do. I know this is a cliche saying, but if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all.....what if the tables were turned on you?

I can only hope that if I hear this again I have the nerve to say something about it to the teacher....it really shows the quality of the person when they begin to do something as low as bullying another teacher. Especially in this world where we are trying to combat it one student at a time....but I guess that doesn't apply to teachers/adults now does that????

This really bothers me! To think that someone would right out say that to a room of people just amazes me. What is this world coming too? And people wonder where our children learn how to bully others....well just look at the adults that they are around.
